Financial services and fintech
Financial-services books that agree with every system, partner and account they depend on
In financial services the balance sheet is the product, and it is built from systems and partners outside the ledger. We reconcile loans, commissions, settlements and partner balances to the books, so the accounts, the regulatory returns and the investor reports draw on the same numbers.
Every balance agrees with its source.
Operating system → reconciliation → ledger and return
At a glance
Loan, policy or transaction systems agree with the ledger in total but not item by item.
Reconciliation and income integrity
Operating system to ledger reconciliation, with breaks by age.

The economics
Why the numbers are harder here
Most financial-services businesses earn a small percentage of a large flow: a spread on a loan book, a commission on premium or assets, a fee on payments. The flow is recorded first in a loan system, a back-office platform, a processor or a partner's statement, and reaches the ledger as summaries. Every break between the operating system and the books is a misstatement waiting to be found.
Over that sits regulation. Lenders, advisers, intermediaries and payment businesses each answer to a regulator with its own returns, ratios and inspections, and those returns are only as reliable as the reconciled data beneath them. Regulatory responsibility always remains with the regulated entity; what a finance function can do is make sure the numbers it reports agree with the books.
The problem
Where visibility breaks down
- Loan, policy or transaction systems agree with the ledger in total but not item by item.
- Income is booked from partner statements with no independent check against the firm's own data.
- Funds held for others — escrow, client money, premium in transit — are reconciled monthly rather than daily.
- Regulatory returns are compiled from operating-system reports that were never tied to the audited accounts.
- Guarantees, clawbacks and contingent obligations are tracked outside the books.
Where we concentrate
How we focus the engagement
Reconciliation and income integrity
- Item-level reconciliation between operating systems and the ledger every month.
- Partner, insurer, product-provider and bank statements matched to the firm's own records.
- Funds held for others reconciled on the cycle the business requires, with breaks explained.
- Fees, commissions and interest recognised on a stated and consistent basis.
- Clawbacks, chargebacks and reversals traced to the transactions that caused them.
Controls and regulatory support
- Maker-checker and access controls over money movement tested regularly.
- Data and reconciliations for regulatory returns prepared and tied to the books.
- Provisions, guarantees and contingent exposures recorded as they build.
- Related-party and group transactions recorded at both ends.
- Internal audit coverage aligned with the risks the regulator and the board care about.
Reporting
Reports worth receiving
- Operating system to ledger reconciliation, with breaks by age.
- Income received against income expected, by partner.
- Funds held for others, reconciled and explained.
- Provisions, guarantees and contingent exposures.
- Regulatory return figures reconciled to the accounts.
Common questions
Questions we hear in this sector
Is 5th Quadrant regulated by RBI, SEBI or IRDAI?
No. We aren't a regulated entity and don't hold or seek any licence on your behalf. Regulatory filings and obligations stay with your firm. We prepare the accounting data, reconciliations and records behind them.
Do you give investment advice?
No. Our work is your firm's own accounts, controls and reporting. We don't advise you or your clients on investments.
Can you work with our loan, policy or payments platform?
Yes. We work inside the platforms you already run and build the reconciliation between them and your ledger. Where data has to move between systems, that handoff is usually what needs fixing.
